Montes Apenninus are a mountain chain located between Mare Imbrium (left) and Mare Serenitatis (right). Some of these mountains are 5000 m high. Top of the image is the big crater Archimedes (about 83km of diameter) with to its right the craters Autolycus and Aristillus. Bottom left is the crater Eratosthenes. Image taken on april 3 2009, the day after the first quarter of the moon.
