Escondida Mine - Chile

Escondida is an open pit copper mine in the Atacama Desert, 170 km southeast of Antofagasta in northern Chile. It is currently the highest producing copper mine in the world. This astronaut photograph acquired in december 2009 from the International Space Station (ISS) shows the Escondida pit.
