Passive Seismic Experiment (PSE), surrounded by its thermal skirt. The skirt protects the ground underneath the instrument from temperature swings as the Sun moves across the lunar sky. The Passive Seismic Experiment studied the propagation of seismic waves through the Moon and provided a look at the Moon's internal structure. The Central Station is in the background.
